Super Food Diet Rule #1
Drink a Glass of Water First Thing in the Morning
Stay Hydrated Throughout the Day

Dr. Andrew Huberman, a neuroscientist and professor at Stanford University, has discussed the importance of starting the morning with water before consuming coffee or other caffeinated beverages. According to Dr. Huberman, there are a few key reasons for this recommendation:

Why Drink Water First Thing in the Morning

Why Drink Water First Thing in the Morning

  1. Hydration: After a night of sleep, the body is often in a mildly dehydrated state. Drinking water upon waking helps to rehydrate the body, which is important for overall health and cognitive function. Proper hydration can also support digestion and metabolism.
  2. Cortisol Levels: Cortisol, commonly known as the “stress hormone,” follows a diurnal pattern, meaning its levels fluctuate throughout the day. Cortisol levels are typically highest in the morning, shortly after waking. Since caffeine can also increase cortisol levels, Dr. Huberman suggests waiting to consume caffeine until after cortisol levels have naturally decreased. This typically occurs about an hour or two after waking.
  3. Adenosine and Caffeine: Adenosine is a neurotransmitter that promotes sleep and relaxation. Caffeine works by blocking adenosine receptors in the brain, leading to increased alertness. Dr. Huberman explains that adenosine levels are low in the morning, so drinking coffee immediately upon waking may not provide the full benefits of caffeine’s alertness-enhancing effects. By waiting until adenosine levels have had a chance to build up, caffeine may be more effective.

It’s important to note that individual responses to caffeine can vary, and the timing and amount of caffeine consumption that works best for one person may not be the same for another.
